All the indications at present suggest that the online gaming industry will not suffer any ill effects in terms of revenue from the ongoing financial problems.
At least this is what has been suggested by Robin Le Provost, the State of Alderney's head of e-commerce development.
The expert said that "at the moment it's all very encouraging" for the industry, which appears to be immune to the effects of a recession, at least for the time-being.
He added that firms in the sector have plenty of money and that he does not believe the credit crunch is having an impact on any plans they may have to expand in the future.
"As far as gambling companies themselves and their plans, they are cash rich, so the credit crunch is not something that will markedly affect their strategy," Mr Le Provost remarked.
Approximately 6.9 per cent of all UK adults used a computer, laptop or mobile phone to gamble online between September 2007 and June 2008, according to ICM Research published by the Gambling Commission.
