Cards sharps are not playing internet poker any less due to the credit crunch, an expert has claimed.
Robin Le Provost, head of the State of Alderney's e-commerce development, said his organisation has observed that there has been relatively little impact on the number of people playing poker online.
Indeed, there have been suggestions that internet poker participation may actually be on the increase.
"There is very little, if any, evidence that the credit crunch is having a noticeable effect. And what we are seeing is that the growth in those activities is continuing," he stated.
Mr Le Provost's comments echo those of Peter Petrie, a spokesperson for Totesport.
Last month he implied that some people appear to be looking on gambling as a way of making money during the ongoing financial crisis, as opposed to viewing it as an unnecessary activity that can be cut back on in order to save cash.
