The online gambling industry will continue to grow over the next four years, according to one expert.
Marco Felice Baranzelli has predicted that the sector will surpass live gaming in terms of size between now and 2012, with internet poker one of the main driving forces, Poker News reports.
He expects that online card playing will grow at an annual rate of 16 per cent over this period, regardless of the economic crisis and any other problems.
It is possible that some of the upsurge may come from the opening up of regulations on internet gambling in countries such as France.
The Remote Gambling Association spoke out last month to praise the French government's decision to reform the way in which the country's internet gaming market is run.
Spokesman Thomas Murphy commented: "We hope that the choices that will be made will allow the creation of a viable market for online gambling."
