JC Tran was the first player to pick up a victory at the PartyPoker Premier League III event on Monday.
According to Matchroom Poker, the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker (WSOP) titlist defeated WSOP main event winner Peter Eastgate in the heads-up when his ace-king held up against the 22-year-old's queen-three.
Annette Obrestad, the 2007 WSOP Europe main event champion, finished third, ahead of Andy Black, Roland De Wolfe and Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott.
The top three competitors were all making their Premier League debut.
Devilfish's last place finish may have surprised commentator Jessie May, who picked him to win the competition overall in his pre-tournament preview for Matchroom.
Tran was his second favourite, with Eastgate fourth, Obrestad fifth, De Wolfe eighth and defending Premier League champion Andy Black tenth.
Black is the only one of the first six players not to have won a WSOP bracelet during his career.
