'Big potential' for mobile gambling

There is a large amount of potential for profit in the mobile gambling market, an expert has said.

Jake Pollard, editor of gambling industry publication EGaming Review, suggested that mobile gaming could rise up to challenge internet gaming in the future, even though it has yet to properly take off as a medium for placing bets.

"When you consider the amount of mobiles even compared to the numbers of people connected to the internet, it dwarfs internet connection by a considerable amount," he remarked.

The latest research from the Gambling Commission, which was released earlier this year, showed just how little people are using their mobile phones for gaming purposes at present.

Out of all of the people who admitted to taking part in remote gambling - via internet, television or phone - in the year up to March 2008, just 2.4 per cent did so using text messages or WAP.
