JC Tran emerged from the PartyPoker Premier League III competition the champion over the weekend after dominating the tournament from start to finish.
The Vietnamese-American, who won three heats and finished second twice on his way to the final table, defeated Tony G in the heads-up to take the title at his first attempt, Matchroom Poker reports.
G had to go through a play-off heads-up match with Victoria Coren to reach the final table but did well once he got there, leading the field at times.
But he could not stop Tran, who adds the Premier League crown to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet he won over the weekend.
Premier League I victor Juha Helppi finished third, ahead of Tom 'Durrr' Dwan, Roland De Wolfe and WSOP main event champion Peter Eastgate.
Only three of the six competitors - Tran, G and Eastgate - were listed among the top six favourites by Jesse May in his pre-tournament preview.
