Goodwin 'could be in for double POY glory'

2008-12-05 15:48:43

English card sharp Mark Goodwin has a good chance of winning player of the year (POY) honours from the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and PokerinEurope for 2008, it has been claimed.

According to Poker News, while victory in the GUKPT race has not yet been officially announced, Goodwin is almost certain to triumph after a year filled with numerous final table appearances and several victories.

And the publication estimates that he may well have done enough over the last week to overtake Jason Mercier at the top of PokerinEurope's rankings as well.

Neither POY competition guarantees the winner a place in the 2009 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, which recognises the accolades given by the World Series of Poker (WSOP), World Poker Tour, Card Player magazine and Bluff magazine among others.

Lindgren took victory at the 2008 WSOP, while John 'Razor' Phan lies in first place in both of the publications' tables.
