Goodwin confirmed as GUKPT player of the year

Marc Goodwin has officially taken victory in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) player of the year competition, it has been announced.

Goodwin had topped the rankings for much of 2008 and built up an unassailable lead in the run up to December, but his triumph was not confirmed by the GUKPT's website until the end of last week.

The Birmingham card sharp topped the points table with a score of 369, leaving him 132 ahead of Jeff Kimber in second place.

Sam Trickett was third on 234, followed by Nik Persaud (230), Zachary Ford (216) and Julian Thew (169).

Ketul Nathwani (159), Dave Penly (155), Tony Cascarino (154) and Tony Phillips (153) made up the rest of the top ten.

Despite Goodwin's domination of the GUKPT in 2008, including reaching ten final tables and winning twice, he has not been able to earn himself a place in Card Player's player of the year table.
