Wolverhampton casino delays see major poker events cancelled

2008-12-31 15:57:46

A casino in Wolverhampton is to miss out on a trio of top poker tournaments due to delays in a construction project.

The Rubicon was due to host three major events but delays over a change of location have meant they have had to be cancelled.

Casino managers were dependent on an investment of £150 million by Multi Developments into the Summer Row shopping centre. However, the group has now pulled out, citing the credit crunch as the reason.

The casino is to be demolished in order to make way for the precinct, but those plans have been put on hold.

Speaking to the region's Express and Star newspaper, Duncan Savage, operations director at Rubicon's owner Blue Chip Casinos, said the casino is "in limbo".

Meanwhile, EDP24 reported this week that there are four consortia interested in bringing a large-scale casino to Yarmouth's Golden Mile.
