Gambling Commission recommends use of licensed websites

2009-01-09 14:14:21

The Gambling Commission (GC) has recommended that consumers only use licensed websites when gaming online.

Julia Mackisack, the GC's director of corporate affairs, stated that it is important online casinos and poker sites promote responsible gambling - a characteristic that the organisation's licence helps to ensure.

"Operators offering gambling under a Commission licence must have clear policies and procedures promoting responsible gambling," she explained.

The GC was set up by the UK government in 2005, replacing the Gaming Board as the regulator for the country's betting, lottery, bingo and casino industry.

Its role is to make sure that standards of responsible gambling are maintained and that companies follow the legislation laid out in the Gambling Act 2005.

Towards the end of last month, the organisation released a leaflet entitled What to look out for when gambling online, which warned consumers to check terms and conditions before beginning to use any website.
