Easing of jackpot restrictions 'a god-send'

2009-01-12 12:14:00

The easing of restrictions on slot machine jackpot limits in pubs and arcades has been welcomed by the gambling industry.

Phil Clegg, InterGaming Magazine's editor-in-chief, said that the gaming sector has been struggling for some time and desperately needed the "lifeline" that the jackpot rule changes have thrown them.

"They're seen as a god-send to be honest - just at the right time when the industry is struggling," he remarked.

His comments follow those of Nick Harding, president of the British Amusement Catering Trades Association, who claimed to be "delighted the government is listening to the industry".

Mr Harding had previously called on the government to act quickly to give the UK gaming industry a boost.

The changes, outlined in a Department for Culture, Media and Sport document published last month, will affect category C and category D slot machines, with modifications to the former expected to include a maximum stake of £1 and a top-level payout in the region of £70.
