Gambling companies should not look towards the security services for guidance on how to prevent money laundering.
This is the suggestion of Dr Richard Alexander, a financial law lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies, who stated his belief that the recommendations of the security services would probably hinder business operations too much to be practical.
"I would not advise seeking the guidance of most security services as, in my view, they are likely to recommend measures which are so cumbersome as to make the entire business unworkable," he remarked.
However, one organisation that could be worth getting in touch with, Dr Alexander said, is the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit, which is a member of the Serious Organised Crime Agency.
Dr Alexander's comments follow last month's publication of Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, which revealed that staff at MI5 have been trained to identify potentially suspicious bets placed by users of online gaming websites.
