The UK government is currently working to finalise the regulations which will allow the cities and towns with permission to develop new casinos to begin the selection process for operators.
InterGame Online reported that local authorities should be well-positioned to begin this process in the summer of 2009, according to a timeline set out by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Earlier this week, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Leeds - which is one of 16 locations that have been approved for a new casino, along with Wolverhampton and Scarborough - is expecting to kick off its selection procedures near the end of 2009.
However, Leeds city council has suggested that given this time frame, it is unlikely that an operator's licence would be granted before late next year.
The planned facility at Leeds is set to be around three times larger than the standard size for a current UK casino.
