Casino developments 'will benefit employment and leisure'

2009-02-20 22:33:35

New casino developments in areas outside of London will have an important role to play in developing both leisure and employment, a representative for the British Casino Association has claimed.

According to the spokesman, casinos can be an "important part" of a town or city's investment in tourism and leisure.

He said: "A number of people will go to a casino in a group ... many of them will sit and enjoy a few drinks at the bar."

The spokesman added that these people may also go out for a meal in a local restaurant or attend a sporting event before coming to the casino, boosting the local economy.

He also explained that a new facility will offer direct employment benefits.

A total of 16 locations across the UK are set to benefit from new casino projects in the coming years. Large casinos are set to be built at Milton Keynes, Middlesbrough and Kingston-upon-Hull, among others.

Meanwhile, smaller facilities are planned for Swansea, Bath, Luton and Wolverhampton.
