A good poker player needs "the right mentality"

2009-03-13 15:35:56

A British poker player who has earned over £1 million since 2001 has spoken to one newspaper about some of his experiences.

Roy Brindley told the Metro this week that gambling has its ups and its downs, but adds that for those who play it well, there are some good times to be had.

He notes that a good poker player should have "the right mentality and temperament", noting that patience and a solid understanding of numbers is essential.

Brindley goes on to say the best poker faces are still and difficult to read and this is often misinterpreted in Hollywood movies.

"The Bond film Casino Royale was a classic piece of trash. I watch people for hours and you instinctively pick up on things, something in their mannerisms and body language," he concludes.

Roy's last major win was at the 2007 November festival in Dublin, since then he has taken out a year-long sabbatical to spend time with his family and pen his autobiography.
