Coventry casino changes hands, redevelopment planned

The casino at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry is to be taken over by the Rank Group, it has been confirmed.

It is now set to be relaunched under the company's G Casino brand following a £650,000 acquisition from Isle of Capri, making it the eighth G Casino in the UK.

Rank is intending to invest a further £1 million in reconfiguring the site - which was originally opened in 2007 - and managing director of the Grosvenor Casinos division Phil Urban explained that he is "excited" by the prospect.

He added that recent years have seen the firm broaden its appeal through the brand, meaning it now offers customers "a grown-up leisure experience based on entertainment, gaming, fun and hospitality".

Meanwhile, Donn Mitchell, senior vice president of UK operations at Isle of Capri, stated that the company is "pleased with the outcome of this transaction", with Rank's involvement expected to safeguard jobs.
