Ricoh Arena boss welcomes casino deal

2009-04-28 17:11:00

The Rank Group's move to buy a casino in Coventry has been welcomed by bosses of the site it is located on.

David Allvey, chairman of the Ricoh Arena, told the Coventry Telegraph that the imminent arrival of a G Casino will emphasise the venue's stature.

The Ricoh Arena is home to Coventry City Football Club, but Mr Allvey explained that income related to the sport now accounts for just 22 per cent of turnover, as other ventures continue to grow.

A deal was agreed between the Rank Group and Isle of Capri last week and the former company is planning to invest £1 million in the casino, having purchased it for £650,000.

And Mr Allvey was quoted as saying: "Arena Coventry and Coventry City Council have continually stated the Ricoh would be a leading multi-purpose venue and, as we approach our fourth birthday, that objective is being delivered."

The G Casino will be the eighth of its kind in the UK.
