San Diego woman wins slots tournament

A woman from San Diego is celebrating after beating over 200 competitors to win the first-ever World Series of Slots tournament.

Michele Leone saw off competition through eight rounds to win a $100,000 grand prize and championship bracelet at the event, which took place at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The winner, who pushed Vera Panjanon-Wolf into second place, claimed she had visited the hotel specifically to take part in the tournament and was "intrigued by the one-on-one competition".

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino chief executive officer Tilman Fertitta said players "loved the head-to-head challenge".

He added: "This event was a huge success that we're sure to repeat in the future."
