Increased interest in mobile phone applications could lead to a growth in mobile gambling, it has been suggested.
Rick Brownlow, business development director at Mfuse, noted that people are becoming more aware of the capabilities of handsets.
He explained that companies such as Apple and Nokia are bringing out devices that are making consumers realise their phones are now able to perform a wider range of functions.
And Mr Brownlow stated that gaming operators could take advantage of the opportunities being offered.
"If I had to lay my money on what would give the highest turnover out of sections of gambling, I'd expect it to be sports betting, certainly for the foreseeable future," he said.
Recent research by Probability identified which phones are most popular among those registering with mobile casinos and chief executive of the firm Charles Cohen observed that it is not just the latest devices that are being used.
