Bath councillors back casino plans

2009-05-18 17:12:38

A new casino could be heading for Bath after councillors agreed to back plans.

Bath and North East Somerset Council voted in favour of going ahead with the licensing process, meaning the area has moved closer to having a venue.

The government is hoping for a number of places across the UK to have a new casino and a developer and a site in Bath are now being sought.

According to the Bath Chronicle, the council expects around 200 jobs to be created by the venue, while the local economy has been predicted to benefit from an additional £7 million each year as it serves as an added attraction for tourists.

The publication noted that six possible sites have been identified in the city centre, including Green Park Station and Saw Close.

Last month, MK News revealed that planning permission had been granted for a new casino in Milton Keynes, with over 100 slot machines to be included.
