For the first time in nine months there has been an increase in the number of casino workers employed in Atlantic City (AC), recent figures have revealed.
According to a report published in the Press of Atlantic City, the industry in the New Jersey gaming hub added an extra 600 jobs last month.
It is thought that the rise in the number of employment opportunities AC comes down in part to the onset of the busy summer season.
Despite an increase month-on-month in the number of casino workers in the city, there has been an overall decline year-on-year.
In May 2008, there were 41,441 workers employed in AC casinos, but this dropped to 37,841 over the subsequent 12 months.
However, one executive suggested that the upturn in worker numbers suggests the beginning of a recovery in AC.
Mark Juliano, chief executive officer of Trump Entertainment Resorts, commented: "I think in one respect it does signal somewhat of a bottom."
Trump Entertainment tried to sell Trump Marina to Coastal Marina but the deal fell through earlier this month.
