Legalisation of table games 'might prompt bigger Bethlehem casino'

2009-06-10 16:08:09

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has said he might triple the size of the hotel next to his casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania if table games were legalised.

At the opening of the gaming establishment, which has 3,000 slot machines, he urged governor Ed Rendell to legislate to allow poker and similar games across the state, reports the Morning Call.

The chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands said the hotel might be expanded from 300 rooms to 1,000.

However, Mr Adelson expressed his confidence that the casino would perform well with or without table games.

"'But as a full-fledged casino, there would be a very high demand for conventions, it would support putting up a structure with 1,000 rooms," he commented.

The $743 million Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem first opened on the site of an old steel mill in May this year, but the grand opening for the venue was held yesterday (June 9th).
