Augustin Dago made orders for chips with a specific logo in £25 denominations throughout the globe, under the cover story he had a casino in his basement.
But instead of hosting nights with blackjack and craps, Dago intended to cash them at various gaming establishments in the country.
He was caught after one of the providers contacted Gala saying an unauthorised individual had placed an order for chips.
Dago was jailed for a total of 18 months.
Detective Inspector Ann Marie Waller said: "This was a calculated attempt to commit fraud against one of the major gaming groups in the UK."
She praised the "quick thinking" of the chip manufacturer and Gala in stopping the counterfeit objects from getting into mainstream circulation.
The company claims to be Europe's leading gaming operator, with over 17,000 employees.
